The story of GTA Vice City is set in 1986 in a fictional city based on Miami, Florida. You play as Tommy Vercetti, a former mobster who just got out of prison after serving 15 years for the Forelli crime family.
Sonny Forelli, the boss, sends Tommy south to Vice City to start fresh and make money through a cocaine deal. But the deal gets ambushed. Tommy loses both the drugs and the money. Now Sonny wants his money back, and Tommy has to figure out who set him up.
As you play through the missions, Tommy builds connections with powerful people in Vice City:
- Colonel Cortez — A retired military leader who runs operations from his yacht
- Ricardo Diaz — The biggest drug lord in Vice City
- Lance Vance — Tommy's partner who wants revenge for his brother's death
- Avery Carrington — A wealthy real estate developer
- Kent Paul — A British music manager at the Malibu Club
Eventually, Tommy takes over Diaz's mansion and starts buying businesses across the city — from the Malibu Club to the Print Works. The final showdown is with Sonny Forelli himself, who comes to Vice City to take everything from Tommy.
